The 80th EE BAFTA Film Awards take place in London on Sunday 21 February 2027, and the nominations will be announced on 19 January. For actors, presenters and creators, the weeks around the night bring press requests, red carpet looks and brand partnerships, and much of that is planned before the nominations are out.
This post sets out what is known so far: the BAFTA Film Awards 2027 dates, the rule changes BAFTA has confirmed, how last year's red carpet was covered and dressed, and the UK ad rules for any gifted or paid post around the night. Each fact comes from a source listed at the foot of the page.
BAFTA opened entries for the 2027 awards on 22 July 2026 and published the timetable at the same time, as reported by AwardsWatch. Voting runs in three rounds: longlists, nominations and winners.
4 December 2026 Round One voting opens, for the longlists
7 January 2027 Longlists are published and Round Two voting opens
19 January 2027 Nominations are announced
26 January 2027 Round Three voting, for the winners, opens
21 February 2027 The 80th EE BAFTA Film Awards, in London
BAFTA has said only that the ceremony will be in London. For comparison, the 2026 ceremony was held at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall on 22 February 2026, hosted by Alan Cumming and broadcast at 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
Most of the changes affect how films and performances reach the shortlist, which matters to any actor in the running.
Acting categories Members of BAFTA's Casting Chapter will vote alongside the Acting Chapter in the first two rounds for Leading and Supporting Actor and Actress. Their vote fills the first five longlist places, and a jury picks the other five from the performances ranked 6 to 15. There are still six nominations in each category
Outstanding British Film The longlist grows from 15 to 20 films, with ten nominations as before
Family Film Children's & Family Film is renamed Family Film, with no change to eligibility or voting
AI BAFTA's rulebook now says the awards recognise human creative achievement regardless of the tools used, and BAFTA may ask for more detail where generative AI was used
Standards Bullying and harassment policies stay mandatory for British productions and will be extended to match the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority (CIISA)
AwardsWatch reports that over 700 performances were entered across the four acting categories, which gives a sense of how crowded the field is.
For talent, the press calendar starts well before the ceremony. Longlist day and nominations day each bring their own round of interest, and the night itself runs on several channels at once.
At the 2026 awards, BAFTA's own coverage was spread across:
Television The ceremony on BBC One and iPlayer at 7pm
YouTube Clara Amfo and Ali Plumb presenting live from the red carpet on BAFTA's channel
Social Benedict and Hannah Townsend of Talk of the Town reporting on arrivals across BAFTA's digital channels, under the #EEBAFTAs hashtag
The practical point for talent: agree in advance which interviews you will do, what you will and will not talk about, and who is handling requests on the day. If you work with a manager or publicist, settle that before nominations day rather than after it. If you are not represented yet and want that kind of support, you can apply as talent.

Press pen along the red carpet
The red carpet is where fashion and jewellery houses get their most visible moment of the night. W Magazine's coverage of the 2026 awards recorded, among others, Paul Mescal in Prada with Cartier jewellery, Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton, Timothée Chalamet in Givenchy and Teyana Taylor in Burberry with Tiffany & Co.
BAFTA has also used the red carpet to make a point. In 2020 it gave every guest a sustainable fashion guide created with London College of Fashion, which suggested brands such as Stella McCartney and Reformation, and some guests re-wore gowns they already owned, according to the law firm Withers. BAFTA has not said whether it plans anything similar for 2027.
Planning a look
Start early Fittings and alterations take time, so book them well before February
Read the terms A loaned or gifted look can come with a request to tag or credit the designer, and that can turn a post into an ad
Plan for the whole weekend Pre-award dinners and after-parties may each call for a different look

The awards themselves run on a brand partnership. EE has partnered the BAFTA Film Awards for 29 years, which EE describes as the longest-standing cultural partnership in the UK, and the two created the EE Rising Star Award together. It is the only category decided by the public: a jury picks five nominees, then the public votes. In 2026 Robert Aramayo won it and also won Best Actor the same night, the first time anyone has taken both.
For individual talent, brand work around the night can mean a dressing arrangement, a beauty or jewellery partnership, or paid posts from the carpet. In the UK, the ASA's rules apply whoever you are:
Gifts count Whenever a brand gives a payment or any other incentive, requested or not, the content must be obviously identifiable as advertising
Fame makes no difference The ASA says there is no follower threshold, whether people call you a celebrity, an influencer or a content creator
Label it Ad The ASA and CMA prefer a prominent label such as "Ad" near the start, and say "Gifted" on its own is unlikely to be clear enough
Control matters If a brand has a say over what you post, the ASA can act under the CAP Code
Build the label into the contract and the approval round before the night, not afterwards. Our creator management team plans this kind of work with the talent we represent, and our talent campaigns page explains how we run brand work from the brand's side.
